Laggan Dram

Laggan Dram
Inside and Outside
And so, to the whisky.
First up the Cask was a bourbon barrel and after its 16 years it was bottled at 58.5% abv in October 2024 (Please note the presentation box has the wrong abv value due to evaporation in the casks before bottling!!). The Cask contained just over 120 litres of spirit allowing 172 bottles to be filled. There will never be another one like it! Of the 172 bottles, 145 will be offered for sale – the rest are all mine (well maybe a few friends might get one!!)

The whisky is presented in a bottle with artwork created by Sadie Darling-Hewitt and each bottle has been etched by Tabatha McCree-Cox. I rubbed wax into the etching and now need a new index finger. Each bottle will have its unique number etched on the base. On the front of the bottle is a fisherman casting whilst wearing a battered hat, standing mid river, in the background is a series of 3 hills called the ‘Paps of Jura’ which can be seen from the River Laggan (on a nice day).

Likewise, this bottle is a tribute to Nigel, he could cast left or right-handed and he always wore a splendidly battered hat!

Dram in a glass
The whisky has a warm, golden, autumnal hue. As you turn it in the glass the ‘legs’ draw slowly down the glass.

On the Nose - Hint of peat, subtle sense of salt and drift wood

The Palate
First sip is dried fruit with a lovely sweetness, which is dry on the tongue. There is a lingering taste of caramel, also this is no Islay peat ‘fest,’ but you can certainly detect the hint of smokiness.

Adding water brings forward a warming, dried apple sweetness.

The Finish - Remains an enduring sweet caramel pleasure
